WANT TO BE PART OF SOMETHING NEW?

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Director of Sustainability to join the team here at BCU. The Director of Sustainability is a new role which will involve leading the University in achieving it’s own Net Zero Strategy and working with our stakeholders in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands to achieve Net Zero for all our community. As a large University and a cornerstone civic institution in the City Region this role is also about leading the approach for our 30,000+ students, 4,000 staff, and our communities, playing our role to understand the problems and find solutions.

We’ve set ambitious targets and it is important that we deliver. We have the commitment and resources and now we need someone to lead the effort. This role reports directly into our Executive Group and has the backing and scrutiny of our Board of Governors.

The Director of Sustainability will be responsible for leading a dedicated team to deliver activities across all areas of the University to achieve this goal, in line with the sustainability vision for the creation and sharing of knowledge and learning for the benefit of social and environmental justice.

There are two major strands to the work of the Sustainability Team relating to BCU as a generic business and BCU as a trusted educator. The purpose of the Sustainability Team is to ensure that sustainable practices are joined up across the organisation to enable the University to communicate and educate through formal and informal channels on all aspects of sustainability.

Environmental Sustainability is extremely important to our future, but we’re also very proud of all the work we do in, and for, our communities, and to be an outstanding corporate citizen. Hence this role will also be prominent in coalescing wider activities under the ESG banner.
